New Manorexia album "Dinoflagellate Blooms" available in the online shop

The acclaimed, mindbending new album from Manorexia, “Dinoflagellate Blooms”, is now available as a download here . The 62 minute album contains 11 tracks. The download contains the stereo version of the album. If you also want the 5.1 surround sound version of the album you may purchase as a double disc set here. Ectopic Ents is proud to announce the release of the long awaited new Manorexia album, Dinoflagellate Blooms. The album features eleven compositions composed, produced and performed by JG Thirlwell. The package includes a CD of the album in stereo, and a DVD with the album in glorious, immersive 5.1 surround sound.

The album careens between soft plucked interludes to full blown symphonic frenzy, from musiq concrete nightmares to cinematic mindfields, with a meticulous marriage of samples and live instruments, distressed sounds and mysterious unknown quantities. You can hear previews of the album here.

Begun in Berlin in 2005, the album was recorded at Thirlwell’s Self Immolation studios in Brooklyn, and the 5.1 mixes were made at Harvestworks Studio with Paul Geluso. Manorexia will be performing in October 2011 with Portishead at All Tomorrow’s Parties event in Asbury Park, NJ.

Manorexia confirmed for Portishead ATP event in Asbury Park

JG Thirlwell’s Manorexia will be playing at the All Tomorrows Parties event curated and headlined by Portishead on Oct 2nd.

The event will span a three day weekend: Sep 30th, Oct 1st and Oct 2nd. Jeff Mangum (Ex Neutral Milk Hotel) will curate and play on the 30th. October 1st and 2nd will be curated by Portishead, and they will play both nights.

This event marks All Tomorrow’s Parties return to the USA in the new location of Asbury Park, N.J., bringing an “I’ll Be Your Mirror” event to the iconic Asbury Park waterfront. This will also mark Portishead’s first East Coast appearence since 1998.

Other acts confirmed over the weekend are Battles, the Pop Group, Swans, Deerhoof, Mogwai, Shellac, Bonnie Prince Billy, Ultramagnetic MCs, Beak>, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Cults, Earth and many more.

Manorexia to perform at concert to benefit Japan Earthquake Relief

JG Thirlwell’s Manorexia will perform at Abrons Art Center in NYC on April 8 2011 in a concert to support recovery efforts in Japan. Organized by John Zorn, 100% of the money from the concert will be going to the Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund. Tickets are on sale here. There will be two sets, with two separate admissions. Manorexia will be playing in the second set, which begins at 9.30pm.

Manorexia in concert NYC Jan 9 2011

JG Thirlwell’s Manorexia will be playing a rare show on a bill with Californian string ensemble Calder Quartet at Le Poisson Rouge on January 9 2011. Manorexia will be premiering some new arrangements, including some works from the forthcoming surround sound Manorexia album “Dinoflagellate Blooms”. JG Thirlwell on "NYFA 25" 5CD collection

The Innova label has released “NYFA collection : 25 years of New York New Music”, a six hour 5 CD set devoted to recipients of The New York Foundation for the Arts’ fellowships in Music Composition and Sound. Thirlwell, who received a fellowship in sound and composition from NYFA in 2010, is featured on this collection, with the track “Ten Ton Shadow”. This huge and stunning collection also includes works by Annea Lockwood, Aaron Jay Kernis, Pauline Oliveros, Annie Gosfield, Meredith Monk, Elliott Sharp, Stefan Tcherepnin and many more. “Ten Ton Shadow” will also appear, in a different form, on the forthcoming Manorexia album.

Manorexia Record Release show in NYC April 4

JG Thirlwell’s Manorexia will be performing live at Le Poisson Rouge, celebrating the release of The Mesopelagic Waters on Tzadik. The show will be on April 4 2010 at 7pm and tickets are $15.00. This is the only Manorexia show scheduled for the US in 2010.

Manorexia: The Mesopelagic Waters released on Tzadik label

The new album from Manorexia is out now on John Zorn’s Tzadik label. Entitled The Mesopelagic Waters, the album is 50 minutes long and contains eight tracks, radically rearranged from the first two Manorexia albums. You can order the album here.
Mano_MesoIt is performed by the chamber ensemble version of Manorexia in the arrangements that JG has been performing and perfecting over the last couple of years. The album features the playing of David Cossin on percussion, Leyna Marika Papach on violin, Elena Moon Park on violin, Karen Waltuch on viola, Felix Fan on cello, David Broome on piano and JG Thirlwell on samples/keys, compositions.It was recorded and mixed at Eastside Studios in NYC and engineered by Marc Urselli.

Yet another Manorexia album will be released toward the end of 2010. As yet untitled, this studio album of all-new material will be released in stereo and 5:1 surround sound.

Ectopic Ents Presents "BAIT": an exclusive digital compilation

On Bait you lucky people can score a heaping helping of Ectopic goodness – over an hour’s worth of  tracks by Foetus, Steroid Maximus and Manorexia( -all alter egos of JG Thirlwell), dating from 1981 up until 2006. It’s not a career overview -but it casts a broad net.  There is early experimental work, tracks by Foetus (features many sides of the Foetus monster, -from cinematic orchestral bombast, to breakneck bigband, to cathartic cacophony) a live track, two tracks each by Manorexia and Steroid Maximus and even a remix by Amon Tobin.
