JG Thirlwell performs at Roulette’s 40th Season benefit celebration

Roulette_509-Atlantic-Avenue_ExteriorJG Thirlwell is proud to announce that he will be performing at a special benefit concert to celebrate the end of Roulette’s 40th Season on July 21 2019. Thirlwell will be performing a new solo set with electronics, prepared piano and theremin in front of an immersive backdrop of new visuals created by Sten Backman. The bill  also includes John Zorn’s Simulacrum (featuring John Medeski, Matt Hollenberg and Kenny Grohowski) as well as a solo set by John Medeski plus Val Jeanty and Fay Victor.

The previous night of the two day festival will feature performances by Ikue Mori & Craig Taborn, Matana Roberts, Nels Cline with Zeena Parkins and the Sylvie Courvoisier Trio (with Drew Gress and Kenny Wollesen).

Manorexia "Dinoflagellate Blooms" surround sound album out now!

Ectopic Ents is proud to announce the release of the long awaited new Manorexia album, Dinoflagellate Blooms. The album features eleven compositions composed, produced and performed by JG Thirlwell. The package includes a CD of the album in stereo, and a DVD with the album in glorious, immersive 5.1 surround sound.

The album careens between soft plucked interludes to full blown symphonic frenzy, from musiq concrete nightmares to cinematic mindfields, with a meticulous marriage of samples and live instruments, distressed sounds and mysterious unknown quantities. You can hear previews of the album here.

Begun in Berlin in 2005, the album was recorded at Thirlwell’s Self Immolation studios in Brooklyn, and the 5.1 mixes were made at Harvestworks Studio with Paul Geluso. Manorexia will be performing in October 2011 with Portishead at All Tomorrow’s Parties event in Asbury Park, NJ.

JG Thirlwell plays Christian Marclay at The Whitney Museum, NYC

Marclay_ScreenplayJG Thirlwell will be performing Christian Marclay’s Screen Play piece at his Festival exhibition at The Whitney Museum in New York City. Marclay’s Festival exhibition consists of many of his graphic scores, sculptural objects and film archives of his actions and performances, and features concerts daily. Screen Play is a graphic / film score to be performed as a trio. JG, who will play samples/electronics, will be performing in a trio with Kenny Wollesen (percussion) and Okkyung Lee (cello) on Sep 1 and 17, and with Kenny Wollesen (percussion) and Elliot Sharp (guitar) on Sep 16.
