September 4 2020 sees the release of a new star-studded tribute album to Marc Bolan, produced by the late Hal Willner. AngelHeaded Hipster: The Songs of Marc Bolan and T.Rex is out September 4 via BMG. It features contributions from Father John Misty, Lucinda Williams, U2 with Elton John, Joan Jett, Peaches, Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl, Todd Rundgren, Nick Cave, Kesha, Elysian Fields, Devendra Banhart and more. JG Thirlwell created arrangements of “Teenage Dream”, which is sung by Marc Almond, and “Ballrooms Of Mars”, which is sung by Emily Haines. Thirlwell’s arrangements were orchestrated by long-time Thirlwell collaborator Simon Hanes (Tredici Bacci). The album was Willner’s final project before his untimely death from Covid 19 in 2020.

JGT guest on Simon Hanes’ Stone week
JG Thirlwell will be guesting on two evenings of Simon Hanes‘ residency at The Stone in NYC, which runs from Nov 6-10 2018.
Thirlwell will appear with Hanes’ 13 piece ensemble Tredici Bacci on Nov 9, where they will perform their entire new album. Thirlwell will perform the song he sings on that album, a version of the ancient hymn ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel‘. In addition Tredici Bacci will perform two songs that were co-written by Thirlwell and Hanes.
On Nov 10, Tredici Bacci will swell to an 18 piece and they will perform a version of the Thirlwell composition ‘I Hate You All’, with Thirlwell on vocals. This song originally appeared on the Foetus album Damp. Jennifer Charles of Elysian Fields will also guest vocalize on this evening. The evening falls on the occasion of Ennio Morricone‘s 89th birthday, a man who has been extremely influential on Hanes.
Thirlwell and Hanes have an extremely productive working relationship over the last several years. Thirlwell has been a regular guest and contributor to Hanes’ Tredici Bacci projecty. Thirlwell has had Hanes play some keyboards and guitar on select cues in his work on the scores for Archer and Venture Bros. Hanes has been guest keyboard played on the recent Xordox live dates.In addition the two have forged a writing relationship and have penned a dozen songs for the female voice.
JGT sits in with Elysian Fields
Elysian Fields are releasing ninth album “For House Cats and Sea Fans”. They are celebrating with a record release concert at Saturday, March 22 at Rough Trade NYC 64 N 9th St, Brooklyn. JG Thirlwell, who appears in the album, will be sitting in with them for the track he contributed to, “Escape from NY”. Also on the bill are The Aspiring Me at 9:00 and the legendary MelvinĀ Van Peebles at 10:00. Elysian Fields hit the stage at 11pm.
JG brings the love with Elysian Fields on V-day
JG Thirlwell will be guesting with compadres Elysian Fields in a special Valentine’s Day concert at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. JGT will sing a duet with lead EF chantueuse siren Jennifer Charles, who collaborated with him on the track “Thrush” on the Foetus album LOVE.
Other special guests appearing at the concert include Doveman, Joan As PoliceWoman, Kate Mattison and actor Kevin Corrigan.
JG Thirlwell guests on new Elysian Fields album
JG Thirlwell has guested on the track “Chance” from the new Elysian Fields album Last Night on Earth. JG will perform that track live as his long-time cohorts Elysian Fields play the new album in its entirety at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City on June 14, complete with brass section and string section. Don’t miss this memorable evening. JG and Jennifer Charles from Elysian Fields last collaborated on the track “Thrush” from the Foetus album LOVE.
Manorexia to perform at concert to benefit Japan Earthquake Relief
JG Thirlwell’s Manorexia will perform at Abrons Art Center in NYC on April 8 2011 in a concert to support recovery efforts in Japan. Organized by John Zorn, 100% of the money from the concert will be going to the Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund. Tickets are on sale here. There will be two sets, with two separate admissions. Manorexia will be playing in the second set, which begins at 9.30pm.
