JG Thirlwell guests on Mike Pride’s MDC tribute

Mike Pride has taken material from punk band MDC’s iconic 1982 debut album, Millions of Dead Cops, and reinterpreted the songs as jazz standards. On the album, entitled I Hate Work, the virtuosic drummer Pride is accompanied by pianist Jamie Saft and bassist Bradley Christopher Jones. It was released on Nov 19 2021 on Rare Noise Records.
JG Thirlwell guests-vocalizes on the track ‘America’s So Straight’. A video for the song was directed by Anais Blondet, which you can see here.
The album also features appearances by Mick Barr (Ocrilim, Krallice), Sam Mickens (The Dead Science) and MDC frontman Dave Dictor.

Thirlwell joins Alan Licht Allstars for Futurist Intonarumori concert at Performa Festval

As part of the 2021 Performa Arts Festival NYC, on Oct 15 2021 JG Thirlwell joined Alan Licht, Keith Fullerton Whitman, MV Carbon, Laura Ortman and Seth Cluett in an ensemble performance on Intonarumori instruments, directed by Luciano Chessa . Intonarumori are experimental musical instruments which were invented and built by the Italian futurist Luigi Russolo between roughly 1910 and 1930.

The performance took place at the former Top Shop department store at the Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan, with broadcast direction by Victoria Keddie and an additional performance by Zach Layton‘s Nepenthae.
The performance will be broadcast here on Oct 20 2021 at 7pm EST, followed by a second performance for Intonarumori instruments featuring Margareth Kammerer, Nick Hallett, Zeena Parkins, Frank J. Oteri, Joan La Barbara, Elliott Sharp and others.

Thirlwell performs Silver Mantis project in Chicago

JG Thirlwell will be performing live in Chicago on Sep 11 2021 at Elastic Arts. Thirlwell will present his quadrophonic electro-acoustic project Silver Mantis project. For this project performs with electronics, theremin and prepared piano along with a projection created exclusively for the project by acclaimed Swedish visual artist Sten Backman. JG Thirlwell solo sound installation in Gotland, Sweden

JG Thirlwell has created a site specific sound installation which is playing at The Foxhole in Visby, Sweden as part of GuteLjaudKarte 2021.

The 47 minute looped soundpiece runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is entitled In Memoriam. In Memoriam is inspired by Gotland and refracts the Swedish National Anthem into a cinematic processed lens which is in turns meditative and  haunting.

The installation was commissioned by the Visby International Centre for Composers, and is operating from June 30 – August 31 2021. The Foxhole is located at Strandpromenaden, 621 55 Visby, Sweden

New Xordox Album Out Now!

OmniverseOmniverse, the second album from JG Thirlwell‘s synthesizer-based project Xordox is now available. Omniverse has been years in the making, and was recorded primarily at Self Immolation Studios in Brooklyn and mixed with Al Carlson at Gary’s Electric. Thirlwell used both hardware and software synths, as well as Buchla and Serge modular synth recordings he created while in residence at EMS in Stockholm. The album was released by Editions Mego. The initial blue vinyl run on the LP is now sold out but it is available on black vinyl (with free download), CD and download. The vinyl contains a shorter version of the track ‘Oil Slick’, edited for the time constraints of the medium. The track is in its full 13 minute glory on the CD and download.

Venture Bros movie announced

Adult Swim has announced that it will be creating three feature length movies from some of it’s most popular shows, including Venture Bros. In the The Venture Bros. movie, “Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt the Ventures or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, The Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them. ”

The film will get a release worldwide on Blu-ray/DVD and PVOD for 90 days before hitting HBO Max and Adult Swim.

Expect an exciting new exclusive score by JG Thirlwell.

The other films to be produced will be based in Metalocalypse and Aqua Team Hunger Force.

Senstad installation with JG Thirlwell score opens in Finland

Anne Katrine Senstad’s ‘Radical Light – Elements VI’ opens at the Seinäjoen Taidehalli in Seinäjoki, Finland on June 16, 2021. The installation is accompanied by a sound composition by JG Thirlwell enveloping the vast light sculptural matrices and the sensory chamber in a unifying sensation of vastness and electric impulses of spatial noise and poetic grandeur!

JG Thirlwell nominated for a Golden Reel Award

JG Thirlwell has been nominated for a Golden Reel Award. JG was nominated in the category “Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Animation Short Form” for the Archer Episode “Cold Fusion” from Season 11, along with sound editors JC Richardson and Pierre Cerrato. The Golden Reel Awards recognize sound artists in 22 categories spanning film, TV, cartoons, computer entertainment and student productions.
