Roli Mosimann RIP

It’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce the passing of Roli Mosimann.

Roli died at 2:15am on September 15 2024 in hospital in Wroclaw, Poland, from lung cancer which had metastasized to his spine and hip. His suffering ended in the intensive care unit in the presence of his family.

Roli was JG Thirlwell‘s partner in the project Wiseblood. They released the album Dirtdish, the EP PTTM and the 12″ single ‘Motorslug‘ and played live extensively.

Thirlwell was drawn to working with him after seeing his incredible drum skills in Swans. Roli was also acclaimed for producing the Swiss band Young Gods and working with JoJo Meyer, Faith No More, Celtic Frost, That Petrol Emotion, Machines of Loving Grace and The The, among many others. He was a questing musician and a sonic sculptor. He was also a great guy, and, as his first wife Alexa said, “lover of women, wine and song..”

Our heart goes out to his family and those whose lives he touched.
RIP Roli Mosimann 11.07.1955 – 09.15.2024 ❤

Swans Oral History book out now

swans bookThe Swans Oral History, Sacrifice and Transcendence by Nick Soulsby,  is out now. JG Thirlwell was interviewed extensively for the book about his involvement with the group. Thirlwell regards Swans as one of the most important groups of the last thirty years, and has a long friendship with their leader Michael Gira. There has been a lot of cross-fertilization between the Swans and the Foetus live bands, with many musicians being members of both, including Norman Westberg, Algis Kizys, Ted Parsons and Vinnie Signorelli. In addition, Thirlwell started his Wiseblood project with former Swans drummer Roli Mosimann.  The Swans song “Jim” from the album My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky is about Thirlwell. You can buy it now at Amazon or wherever good books are sold, as they say!
