Thirlwell scores Archer Season 13

JG Thirlwell has begun work composing the musical score for Season 13 of Archer, which will begin airing in the fall of 2022 on FXX. Thirlwell joined the show on season 7, so this is his seventh season writing the music.

In addition, a soundtrack album of Thirlwell’s scores from Archer, drawn from seasons 7-9, will be released later in 2022 via the Disney Music Group / Iam8bit. Go team Archer!

JG Thirlwell records an album of string works with Mivos Quartet

JG Thirlwell has recorded an album of his string quartets with Mivos Quartet. They were initially scheduled to make the album in 2020 but it was delayed due to the pandemic. Recording took place at Shiny Things Studio in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn with Mike Tierney recording and engineering. The album, entitled Dystonia, was made possible with funding from the Australia Council for the Arts. It should be released in late 2022.

JG Thirlwell + Ensemble live at Roulette NYC

JG Thirlwell + Ensemble played to a packed house at Roulette NYC on Dec 7 2021, performing chamber versions of some Foetus repertoire. With Evan Allen on piano, Leah Asher on violin, Rebecca El-Saleh on harp, Simon Hanes on acoustic guitar/bass, Pete Moffett on percussion and JG Thirlwell on vocals. JG Thirlwell guests on Mike Pride’s MDC tribute

Mike Pride has taken material from punk band MDC’s iconic 1982 debut album, Millions of Dead Cops, and reinterpreted the songs as jazz standards. On the album, entitled I Hate Work, the virtuosic drummer Pride is accompanied by pianist Jamie Saft and bassist Bradley Christopher Jones. It was released on Nov 19 2021 on Rare Noise Records.
JG Thirlwell guests-vocalizes on the track ‘America’s So Straight’. A video for the song was directed by Anais Blondet, which you can see here.
The album also features appearances by Mick Barr (Ocrilim, Krallice), Sam Mickens (The Dead Science) and MDC frontman Dave Dictor.

Thirlwell joins Alan Licht Allstars for Futurist Intonarumori concert at Performa Festval

As part of the 2021 Performa Arts Festival NYC, on Oct 15 2021 JG Thirlwell joined Alan Licht, Keith Fullerton Whitman, MV Carbon, Laura Ortman and Seth Cluett in an ensemble performance on Intonarumori instruments, directed by Luciano Chessa . Intonarumori are experimental musical instruments which were invented and built by the Italian futurist Luigi Russolo between roughly 1910 and 1930.

The performance took place at the former Top Shop department store at the Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan, with broadcast direction by Victoria Keddie and an additional performance by Zach Layton‘s Nepenthae.
The performance will be broadcast here on Oct 20 2021 at 7pm EST, followed by a second performance for Intonarumori instruments featuring Margareth Kammerer, Nick Hallett, Zeena Parkins, Frank J. Oteri, Joan La Barbara, Elliott Sharp and others.

Thirlwell performs Silver Mantis project in Chicago

JG Thirlwell will be performing live in Chicago on Sep 11 2021 at Elastic Arts. Thirlwell will present his quadrophonic electro-acoustic project Silver Mantis project. For this project performs with electronics, theremin and prepared piano along with a projection created exclusively for the project by acclaimed Swedish visual artist Sten Backman. JG Thirlwell solo sound installation in Gotland, Sweden

JG Thirlwell has created a site specific sound installation which is playing at The Foxhole in Visby, Sweden as part of GuteLjaudKarte 2021.

The 47 minute looped soundpiece runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is entitled In Memoriam. In Memoriam is inspired by Gotland and refracts the Swedish National Anthem into a cinematic processed lens which is in turns meditative and  haunting.

The installation was commissioned by the Visby International Centre for Composers, and is operating from June 30 – August 31 2021. The Foxhole is located at Strandpromenaden, 621 55 Visby, Sweden
