String Orchestra Of Brooklyn play JG Thirlwell commission

dpc_stringorchestraofbk_fb-533x399JG Thirlwell has been commissioned by the String Orchestra of Brooklyn to create a composition for their String Theories Festival. The piece will premiere at Roulette in NYC on April 10 2019, alongside premieres by John King and Lisa Renée Coons. Entitled ‘Exulansis‘, Thirlwell’s piece will feature the String Orchestra along with two french horns, two trombones and two percussionists. JG described the piece as “an urgent and cinematic work which explores escaping memories  through the prism of the culture of fear and dread”. Tickets are available here

JG Thirlwell remixes Alan Vega's final recordings

Screen Shot 2019-03-14 at 11.33.54 PMJG Thirlwell has remixed the song You Pay / Too Many Teardrops by Alan Vega. The frontman of the legendary electronic group Suicide, Vega died in 2016 at the  age of 78, and this was his final recording. The song was produced and co-written by Vega’s friend and collaborator, Mr. Pharmacist (aka Gregg Foreman), and features Yeah Yeah YeahsNick Zinner guesting on guitar. Released on Velvet Elk Records, the 12″ EP features the original mix of the song and a remix by JG Thirlwell as well as a remix by Jim Sclavunos of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Proceeds will benefit children’s Little Kids Rock, supporting music education programs nationwide.

Video of Thirlwell / Hanes composition "Felicity Grows"

Screen Shot 2019-03-12 at 1.51.22 AMThe new video from Tredici Bacci is “Felicity Grows”, a song was written by JG Thirlwell and Tredici Bacci leader Simon Hanes. The video was directed by Hanes and Chris Shields, who also served as director of photography. Simon Hanes is a frequent collaborator of Thirlwell, and they have written many songs together for the female voice – this is the first one to see the light of day. It’s featured on the excellent new Tredici Bacci album, La Fine Del Futuro, on NNA Tapes. The album also features a version of the ancient hymn ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel’ reinterpreted in the style of a Morricone-ish gunfighter ballad and sung by Thirlwell. JG Thirlwell + Ensemble at National Sawdust

Screen Shot 2019-01-16 at 9.44.50 AM In 2018, JG Thirlwell + Ensemble debuted with two songs at a private gala mounted by The Kitchen which honored Lydia Lunch and Nan Goldin. Now expanded to a full set, the project will make it’s  public debut with a performance at National Sawdust in Brooklyn at 7.30 pm on February 28 and March 1 2019.

The repertoire will draw from Thirlwell’s Foetus and Wiseblood projects, including staples such as ‘I’ll Meet You In Poland, Baby’, ‘Throne Of Agony’ and ‘Someone Drowned in My Pool’, as well as never performed works ‘Here Comes The Rain’ and ‘Not Adam’, plus some new songs written by Thirlwell and Simon Hanes of Tredici Bacci. The new chamber arrangements of the material were created by Thirlwell and Hanes, for the instrumentation of harp, viola, piano, acoustic guitar and voice.

It is printed on French 100lb cover paper, and is 24″ x 18.” which makes it easy to place in a standard sized frame.You can order the print here
The artwork is in a very small edition of 75, but only 60 copies will be made available in the Foetus Shoppe. The print sells for $75.00 plus flat postage and packaging fee of $15 in the US, $20 in Canada and $26 in the rest of the world. Since the print ships in a tube by itself, when ordering the print you cannot order other items in the same shipment. Other items (CDs, T-shirts, vinyl, tote bags, digital) must be ordered separately.

Candy Cane by Angel Delight

Screen Shot 2019-01-08 at 12.05.32 PM‘Candy Cane’ is a track that JG Thirlwell recorded with his friend Maya Hardinge under the name Angel Delight back in 2010 for a Xmas compilation entitled No Silent Night : The Second Coming. Hardinge assembled the compilation, which was was released privately. Ectopic Ents has made that track public for the first time on YouTube. The music is by Thirlwell, with vocals by Hardinge. Venture Bros nominated for Annie Award

The other shows competing in that category are Bojack Horseman, Bob’s Burgers, Big Mouth and Human Kind Of. The Annies are the Oscars of animation, honoring the best in the field. JG Thirlwell creates the musical score for Venture Bros, which airs on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block of programming. Go Team Venture!

JG Thirlwell creates new musical score in 'Nightmare Cinema'

Screen Shot 2018-11-28 at 8.09.53 AMNightmare Cinema is an anthology of five short horror films directed by Alejandro Brugues, Joe Dante, Mick Garris, Ryuhei Kitamaru and David Slade. JG Thirlwell created the original musical score for the David Slade section of the film, which has its New York premiere on November 29 2018 at the NYC Horror Festival at 7pm at Cinepolis Chelsea. The film will be getting a theatrical run in 2019. Tickets available here

JGT guest on Simon Hanes’ Stone week

IMG_0392JG Thirlwell will be guesting on two evenings of Simon Hanes‘ residency at The Stone in NYC, which runs from Nov 6-10 2018.

Thirlwell will appear with Hanes’ 13 piece ensemble Tredici Bacci on Nov 9, where they will perform their entire new album. Thirlwell will perform the song he sings on that album, a version of the ancient hymn ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel‘. In addition Tredici Bacci will perform two songs that were co-written by Thirlwell and Hanes.

On Nov 10, Tredici Bacci will swell to an 18 piece and they will perform a version of the Thirlwell composition ‘I Hate You All’, with Thirlwell on vocals. This song originally appeared on the Foetus album Damp. Jennifer Charles of Elysian Fields will also guest vocalize on this evening. The evening falls on the occasion of Ennio Morricone‘s 89th birthday, a man who has been extremely influential on Hanes.

Thirlwell and Hanes have an extremely productive working relationship over the last several years. Thirlwell has been a regular guest and contributor to Hanes’ Tredici Bacci projecty. Thirlwell has had Hanes play some keyboards and guitar on select cues in his work on the scores for Archer and Venture Bros. Hanes has been guest keyboard played on the recent Xordox live dates.In addition the two have forged a writing relationship and have penned a dozen songs for the female voice.
