Screen shot 2014-05-24 at 7.25.50 AMThe annual Bang On A Can Marathon concert will take place on Sunday June 22 at the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center in NYC as part of the River To River Festival. At the concert the Bang On A Can All Stars will perform JG Thirlwell’s composition “Anabiosis”. This piece was originally commissioned by the Bang On A Can People’s Commissioning Fund in 2005 and performed by the All Stars that year. Subsequently JG Thirlwell rearranged and refined the composition for his Manorexia ensemble and performed it extensively. Further to this, a studio recording (performed fully by JG Thirlwell) was released on 2011’s Manorexia Dinoflagellate Blooms album. Moving full circle, JG has worked with Nathan Koci to integrate refinements developed in the composition from subsequent work into a new score for the All Stars, and this will be played at the BOAC marathon.

The concert will feature music by Louis Andriessen, Armando Bayolo, Jherek Bischoff, Carlos Carrillo, Bryce Dessner, Julius Eastman & Jace Clayton, Michael Gordon, Judd Greenstein, Brooks Frederickson, Molly Joyce, David Lang, Paula Matthusen, Marc Mellits, Meredith Monk, Andrew Norman, Caroline Shaw, JG Thirlwell, and Julia Wolfe.

The concert will feature performances by Adrianna Mateo, Anonymous 4, Bang on a Can All-Stars & friends, Bearthoven, Contemporaneous, Dawn of Midi, Great Noise Ensemble, Jace Clayton (aka DJ/rupture) & friends, Jherek Bischoff, Mantra Percussion, Meredith Monk & Theo Bleckmann, Roomful of Teeth and So Percussion.

The concert runs from noon until midnight and admission is free!
