The second half of season four of The Venture Bros premieres September 12, 2010 on Adult Swim/Cartoon Network. This season, which is considered number 4.5, consists of eight episodes, the last of which is a double episode. There is a lot of exciting new music scored for the show by JG Thirlwell. Here is a sneak preview.

JG Thirlwell plays Christian Marclay at The Whitney Museum, NYC
JG Thirlwell will be performing Christian Marclay’s Screen Play piece at his Festival exhibition at The Whitney Museum in New York City. Marclay’s Festival exhibition consists of many of his graphic scores, sculptural objects and film archives of his actions and performances, and features concerts daily. Screen Play is a graphic / film score to be performed as a trio. JG, who will play samples/electronics, will be performing in a trio with Kenny Wollesen (percussion) and Okkyung Lee (cello) on Sep 1 and 17, and with Kenny Wollesen (percussion) and Elliot Sharp (guitar) on Sep 16.

JG Thirlwell four channel sound installation at Latitude Festival
JG Thirlwell’s four channel sound installation piece “Krzysztl” (pronounced “crystal”) will be in a 4 channel sound gallery in the contemporary art arena at the Latitude Festival, UK. The festival runs from July 15-18 and Thirlwell’s piece, previously featured at the Enter exhibition at Tou Scene in Norway, will play on July 17. On the same day they will be playing sound pieces by Kim Gordon, Carsten Nicolai and Matmos. During the festival, the sound art tent will also host pieces by Oren Ambrachi, Pauline Oliveros, Camille Norment, Charlemagne Palestine, Stephen O’Malley and more . The sound tent is curated by Ben Borthwick , Anne Hilde Neset and Louise Gray .
Located in Suffolk, England, the Latitude festival features music, theater, opera, literature, poetry and more, and will feature performances by Belle and Sebastian, Grizzly Bear, Crystal Castles, Tom Jones and many more.
JG Thirlwell in exhibition at Galerie Frederic Giroux
JG Thirlwell has a piece in the art show “Previously on Optical Sound…”, which will take place at Galerie Frederic Giroux in Paris from July 6-24 2010. Curated by Pierre Belouin, the show features artists responding to each others’ works. Thirlwell’s piece, entitled “Controlled Coma”, is a response to French composer Norscq. Other artists featured in the show include Rebecca Bournigault, Pascal Broccolichi, Pierre-Laurent Cassière, Jill Gasparina, Olivier Huz, P.Nicolas Ledoux, Norscq, Jérôme Poret and Black Sifichi.
The delivery of Hydroze Plus
The collaboration between JG Thirlwell and Fred Bigot is now finally released by the French art/music label Optical Sound.
Under the name Hydroze Plus, the release is a clear vinyl ten inch EP. The EP consists of the songs “Overcoat” and “Calm Calm”, as well as JG’s remix of “Overcoat”, which is entitled “Epi-Dose”, and Bigot’s remix of “Calm Calm”, which is entitled “Belladonna”.
The packaging, designed by JG Thirlwell, is particularly unusual and unique. It is designed to resemble an anatomical text book with transparent layers. The eyeball appears on the label which is overlaid by a transparent plastic sheet which is screenprinted with the face’s musculature. The card behind the transparent record depicts the skull., and it is wrapped around with a flap that contains the credit.
This is an extremely limited vinyl-only release only available from Optical Sound. It will be available digitally from Ectopic Ents at a later date.
Venture Bros invade Britain
Turner Broadcasting / Cartoon Network has signed a deal with FX UK to air shows from its Adult Swim block of programming. The Venture Bros, which is scored by JG Thirlwell, debuted on FX UK starting June 5 and will air on Saturday nights. Check your listings!
Steroid Maximus live in New York!
JG Thirlwell will be performing his Steroid Maximus
project as a twenty piece band with brass section and strings at Prospect Park for the Celebrate Brooklyn Festival on June 18. Steroid Maximus will be performing the Ectopia album and selections from the score of The Venture Bros. Rain or shine, and it’s free – mark your calendars for this once-in-a-lifetime show! JG will be joined by long-time colleague Steven Bernstein as musical director and on trumpet; the rest of the musicians will be announced shortly. Dr Lonnie Smith will support.
JG Thirlwell remixes Extra Life
JG Thirlwell has completed a remix for NYC’s angular post-avant band Extra Life . JG’s mutated version of the song “The Body is True” will be featured on an EP entitled Splayed Flesh, to be released by Sockets Records in July 2010. The EP also features Extra Life remixes by Tyondai Braxton (Battles), Caley Monahan Ward and Justin K. Broadrick, along with album versions of the songs that are remixed.
Manorexia Record Release show in NYC April 4
JG Thirlwell’s Manorexia will be performing live at Le Poisson Rouge, celebrating the release of The Mesopelagic Waters on Tzadik. The show will be on April 4 2010 at 7pm and tickets are $15.00. This is the only Manorexia show scheduled for the US in 2010.

JG Thirlwell's releases new shirt design for The Wire
JG Thirlwell has designed a shirt for The Wire magazine. Entitled FORK, the shirt is printed in black, grey and white on a red shirt with The Wire url printed in white on the right sleeve. It is available exclusively from The Wire in a limited edition of 100, and is available in small, medium, large, XL and womens large.
