JG Thirlwell appears in Lydia Lunch / Jasmine Hirst documentary

Lydia Lunch and Jasmine Hirst‘s have produced and directed the film “Artists: Depression, Anxiety and Rage”, which is screening at varios festivals and special events.
The film features comments and interviews from Shirley Manson, Jerry Stahl, JG Thirlwell, Joseph Keckler, Adele Bertei, Weasel Walter, Eugene Robinson, Thor Harris , Kid Congo Powers and many more.

JG Thirlwell appears at tribute to Suicide

JG Thirlwell will appear at a musical tribute to legendary NYC group Suicide at Bowery Electric on June 20 2024. Also appearing are Martin Rev (Suicide), Eugene Hutz (Gogol Bordello), Devon Ross, Rocky O’Riordan (The Pogues), Hether Fortune (Wax Idols) , Puzzled Panther, Liz Lamere, Eric Davidson (New Bomb Turks), LG Galleon (Dead Leaf Echo), Peter Gordon, Emilie Simon, Maria Lina, Johann Rashid, Justin Strauss, Cynthia Ross and Zachary Allan Starkey. Musical backing is provided by Greg Foreman and Bob Bert. Tickets are available here

JG Thirlwell’s Archer Soundtrack Volume 1 Finally Released!

Archer Volume 1
is the long-awaited soundtrack album of JG Thirlwell‘s scores for the animated FX series Archer. Thirlwell created the musical score for seasons 7-14 of the series, from 2015-2023.

The album comprises 27 tracks and is drawn from seasons 7-9 of the show. There are 30 tracks on the digital version. The record is released on maraschino red vinyl. Apart from the theme song, Thirlwell performed and produced everything on the album with guest appearances by Marty Ehrlich, Matt Nelson, Steven Bernstein and Simon Hanes

Thirlwell joined the show on season 7 and was able to expand and build on the Archer universe with his musical stylings. The show won an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Animated Program for season 7. You can buy the album on vinyl or digitally here. You can listen to previews here in the mp3 tab.

JG Thirlwell reads Lord Byron in new Hausswolff / Chaplin project

The Prisoner of Chillon was written by Lord Byron and published 200 years ago. Carl Michael von Hausswolff and Christopher Chaplin decided to compose a soundtrack to the poem. They engaged several people to read the poem, including JG Thirlwell, Judy Nylon, Anna von Hausswolff, Carmen Alt-Chaplin, Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten, Christine Martha Roedelius & Hans Joachim Roedelius. The result is a CD and chapbook which you can purchase here.

Alterity Chamber Orchestra perform new music by JG Thirlwell

On January 13 2024, Alterity Chamber Orchestra will be premiering major new chamber works written for them by JG Thirlwell in Orlando, Florida. The program will feature the new orchestral work Magnus Morbus and a new woodwind quintet entitled Hernea. In addition Alterity will perform Thirlwell’s Exulansis, which was originally composed for the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, and has been re-voiced for chamber orchestra. In addition Alterity will perform a string quartet version of the Manorexia classic Armadillo Stance.

Alterity Chamber Orchestra’s instrumentation is two violins, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bass clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, piano and two percussionists.

The show is presented by the Timucua Arts Foundation. The performance is free, although you can donate if you wish. You can reserve tickets here.

JG Thirlwell + Ensemble to perform at Big Ears Festival in TN

JG Thirlwell + Ensemble will be appearing at Big Ears Festival on March 23 2024. The festival will take place in Knoxviille TN March 21-24. Other scheduled performers at Big Ears include Kronos Quartet, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Herbie Hancock, Colin Stetson, Sex Mob, Fred Frith, Jon Batiste, billy woods, John Paul Jones, Laurie Anderson and millions more!

In addition, JG Thirlwell will present his Silver Mantis project at Big Ears on March 24 2024.

JG Thirlwell brings Silver Mantis to Sydney

JG Thirlwell will bring his Silver Mantis project to Sydney on Sept 27 2023 with a free concert as part of the Volume Festival at Art Gallery of New South Wales.

There will also be separate performances the same day by Corinne and Arthur Cantrill, amby downs, Ellen Fullman and Theresa Wong, Lisa Lerkenfeldt, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Primitive Motion, Saint Abdullah. The program is curated by Lawrence English of Room 40 Records.

This is the first time that Thirlwell has performed in Sydney.

JG Thirlwell featured on MC5 Tribute album

JG Thirlwell appears on the album Call Me Animal: A Tribute to the MC5 which is released by Saustex Records on Nov 1 2023.
 
The album is credited to by Memphis band Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre, who perform the backing tracks. The 22 tracks feature a myriad of guest stars including Alice Cooper, Keith Morris, Zal Cleminson (Sensational Alex Harvey Band), Jello Biafra, Wayne Kramer, Tex Perkins, Cherie Currie, Mike Watt, Lydia Lunch, JD Pinkus and Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers), J Mascis, Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Eugene Robinson, Norman Westberg (Swans), Chris Connelly, Billy Gould (Faith No More) and many more. JG Thirlwell presents Silver Mantis in Wellington and Auckland New Zealand

We are excited to announce that JG Thirlwell will be presenting his surround sound Silver Mantis project in Wellington New Zealand at Meow on Sept 14 2023 and in Auckland New Zealand at Audio Foundation on Sept 15 2023.

Silver Mantis is a 50 minute live surround-soundelectro-acoustic presentation, performed with keyboards, prepared piano and theremin. It is performed with a projection created exclusively for the project by acclaimed Swedish visual artist Sten Backman.

We are proud to announce the issuing of the sixth limited edition silkscreen print by JG Thirlwell, entitled Zomoscape #6. This gorgeous art piece is a signed and numbered four-color screen print in Thirlwell’s signature palette of black, red, white and gray. It is printed on French 100lb cover paper, and is 24″ x 18.” which makes it easy to place in a standard sized frame. You can order the print here

The artwork is in a very small edition of 75, but only 60 copies will be made available in the Foetus Shoppe. The print sells for $75.00 plus flat postage and packaging fee of $20 in the US, $25 in Canada and $30 in the rest of the world. Since the print ships in a tube by itself, when ordering the print you cannot order other items in the same shipment. Other items (CDs, T-shirts, vinyl, tote bags, digital) must be ordered separately.

Zomoscape marks the sixth and final print in this series. The first three prints are sold out.
