We are thrilled to announce that JG Thirlwell + Ensemble will be performing on August 12 2023 at Bush Hall in London.

JG Thirlwell + Ensemble performs re-imagined chamber versions of songs from the Foetus canon and beyond. The instrumentation is harp, piano, viola/violin, acoustic guitar/bass, percussion and voice.
For the UK premiere of the project, the ensemble will feature Angharad Davies on violin, Tim Parkinson on piano, Emilia Agajew on harp, Simon Hanes (Tredici Bacci) on acoustic guitar and bass and Adam Morris on drums and percussion.Tickets are available here. Photo by Daniel Efram

JG Thirlwell’s Silver Mantis project in St Louis

We are excited to announce that JG Thirlwell will be presenting his surround sound Silver Mantis project in St Louis, Missouri on Monday January 16 2023.
The performance will take place at O’Connell’s 4652 Shaw Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63110 at 8.00pm.

Silver Mantis is a 50 minute live surround-sound electro-acoustic presentation, performed with keyboards, prepared piano and theremin. It is performed with a projection created exclusively for the project by acclaimed Swedish visual artist Sten Backman.

JG Thirlwell’s Archer Soundtrack Vol 1 due in 2023

The long-awaited soundtrack album of JG Thirlwell‘s scores for the animated series Archer will finally be released in 2024 via iam8bit/DMG.

The album comprises 27 tracks and is drawn from seasons 7-9 of the show. It will be released on maraschino red vinyl.

Thirlwell joined the show on season 7 and was able to expand and build on the Archer universe with his musical stylings. The show won an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Animated Program for season 7.

Alarm Will Sound premieres new commission by JG Thirlwell

Alarm Will Sound is a 20-member chamber orchestra that focuses on recordings and performances of contemporary classical music. They have commissioned JG Thirlwell to create a long form composition. The result is a 40 minute piece entitled ‘Execution’.

‘Execution’ comprises four movements : ‘Retribution’, ‘Evolution’, ‘Involution’ and ‘Devolution’.

It will premiere at the Sinquefield Music Center at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO on January 17 2023. At the same concert, Alarm Will Sound will also perform pieces by Jlin, Daniel Wohl and Chris Thompson.

Great Learning Orchestra Box Set

The Great Learning Orchestra is a network with more than hundred musicians embracing music and sound through the act of listening.Based in Stockholm, they incorporate musicians of different ability levels to engage in different forms of expression from improv to graphic scores.

JG Thirlwell created and workshopped some graphic scores with them, and subsequently was commissioned to write a long form piece. The large piece was in 11 movements and incorporated guided improv, instructional pieces as well as conventional notation.

An edited version of this piece appears in the new Great Learning Orchestra box set, Commissioned Work and Live Recordings. The triple CD set also includes works by Leah Asher, Cornelius Cardew, Christian Marclay, Pauline Oliveros, Christina Campanella and others, including GLO founder Leif Jordansson.

Decibel play Thirlwell in London

Decibel New Music Ensemble will be performing their Two Minutes From Home project in concert on Nov 29 2022 at The Performance Space, City University, London. The project includes pieces by JG Thirlwell, Aaron Wyatt, Marina Rosenfeld, Thembi Soddell and many others, who composed visual scores on their unique Decibel Score Creator program.

Anne Senstad book publication event

Anne Senstad is a multi-disciplinary artist from Norway, who works in sculptural installations examining light, sound, and color. JG Thirlwell has provided the sound environment for many of her pieces.

A new book, Neon Guides Me, chronicles her work, and on Nov 5 2022 there will be an event at The Emily Harvey Foundation in NYC to celebrate the publication. Anne Senstad, JG Thirlwell and  Brooklyn Rail editior Tom McGlyn will have a panel discussion, followed by a video talk with publisher Praun & Guermouche, and a neon installation on view.

The Emily Harvey Foundation, 537 Broadway #2 NYC 10012. The event is from 4pm-6pm and the panel discussion happens at 4.15pm. Free admission.

JG Thirlwell’s Xordox will be performing on NYC on November 30 2022 at TV Eye in Ridgewood, Queens. Xordox will be performing material from the albums Omniverse and Neospection. For this iteration of Xordox, JGT will be joined by long-time ally Simon Hanes (Tredici Bacci), with sensational visuals from Sten Backman.
