As part of BAMcinématek series “3D in the 21st Century”, BAM will present a program Ken Jacobs‘ films, including a rare screening of the acclaimed Seeking the Monkey King, which features a score by JG Thirlwell (culled mainly from the Manorexia album Dinoflagellate Blooms). May 11th 2015, 7.30pm at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

JGT / Senstad collabs at Venice Biennale 2015
Two video pieces by Anne Senstad with sound and music composed by JG Thirlwell will be shown at El Magazen dell’Arte, at The 56th Venice Biennale 2015. The pieces, The Swamp and The Vanity of Vanities, will be exhibited as an immersive multi-projection installation. The exhibition opens May 9th.
New film "Norfolk" with score by JG Thirlwell
JG Thirlwell‘s music provides the score for the film Norfolk, directed by BAFTA nominee Martin Radich. The soundtrack also features audio contributions from the acclaimed field recordist Chris Watson, and the sound design is provided by John Sampson (of the band Swimming). The film tells the story of an assassin and his young son who are hiding out in an apparent rural idyll when the man’s unspeakable past starts to catch up with him. The film stars Denis Ménochet (Inglourious Basterds, Robin Hood), Barry Keoghan (’71, Stay), Eileen Davies (Sightseers, Another Year), Sean Buckley (The Fifth Element, Les Misérables) and newcomer Goda Letkauskaite.
The film will premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), where it competes in the Hivos Tiger Awards. The film will screen there on the following dates –

Thirlwell remixes John Carpenter for new album
JG Thirlwell has remixed a new track by John Carpenter. The remix will be included on the deluxe digital version of Carpenter’s new album on Sacred Bones, Lost Themes. Other artists who have tackled remixes include Zola Jesus with Dean Hurley, Blanck Mass (Ben Power of Fuck Buttons), Silent Servant, ohGr and Bill Kouligas (PAN label head).
Additionally, renegade auteur John Carpenter will make a rare New York appearance at BAM on Thursday, February 5 to discuss his legendary career and celebrate the release of his debut solo album, Lost Themes.
Carpenter has scored many his films and Lost Themes is a collection of unused, previously unheard works in his inimitable style. The album will be released on Feb 3 2015.
All new Venture Bros special for Jan 2015
A brand new one hour Venture Bros special will be airing January 19th, 2015 (at midnight ET/PT) on Adult Swim / Cartoon Network.

This double episode will feature a ton of new music by JG Thirlwell. The rest of season six will be airing at a later date.
Thirlwell performs "Cholera Nocebo" in London
JG Thirlwell will bring his Cholera Nocebo project to London with an exclusive performance at Cafe Oto on Dec 16 2014.
Cholera Nocebo is a 50 minute electro-acoustic presentation performed by JG Thirlwell with electronics, autoharp, objects and prepared piano. It is an immersive multi channel composition which allows for an elastic performance incorporating live re-composition and improvisation into the structure of the work, incorporating musique concrete and electronic sound along with live instrumentation.
Thirlwell performs with a projection of a time-lapse car journey along the Long Island Expressway in NY which gives the illusion of hurtling into a void, culminating in footage that was shot in the blackout which occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, which devastated NYC.
Conceived as his “pangaea” project, Thirlwell will perform it on each continent. It has thus far been performed in Marrakech, Istanbul, Stockholm and Lausanne.
JGT makes a commercial for E.S.P. TV
JG Thirlwell has created a commercial for his corporation/label Ectopic Ents with Gea* for E.S.P. TV. It will be premiering as part of the program “E.S.P. TV #71: No Face Performance Group”, on Tues. Nov 25 at 10pm on Ch 67 Time Warner in Manhattan and online on MNN4. The commercial features a new piece of music that Thirlwell scored especially for the commercial.
JG guests at Kill Your Idols screening
It’s the tenth anniversary of Scott Crary’s documentary about the New York music scene, Kill Your Idols. It’s being celebrated with two midnight screenings at the Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. JG Thirlwell will be a guest after the screening tonight, November 15, for a discussion and Q & A, along with Jim Sclavunos (Teenage Jesus, Bad Seeds etc), Chris Pravdica (Flux Information Sciences, Swans) and Aaron Warren (Black Dice).
JG sits in with Great Learning Orchestra
On Oct 22 2014, JG Thirlwell will be sitting in with the Great Learning Orchestra while they perform one of the graphic scores that he has created for them. This will take place at their A4 rum exhibition at Marabouparken in Sundbyberg, Sweden, where they are exhibiting many of the graphic scores they have commissioned or performed. They say of the exhibition, “a4 rum is a project that stretches the boundaries of visual art and music, initiated in 2004 by Leif Jordansson for the Great Learning Orchestra. What began as an open invitation to contribute a composition, which could be in the format of traditional musical notation, written instructions, graphic images or photographs, has now grown into a comprehensive archive of more than 140 compositions that each fits on an A4 sheet.”

JGT performs at Film Makers Co-Op Benefit
JG Thirlwell will being making an exclusive appearance at a benefit for the NY Film Makers Cooperative on November 19 at Santos Party House. Also on the bill are Philip Glass, Bruce McClure, MV Carbon, Jonas Mekas, Optipus, Bill Morrison, Lary Seven, The Uzipisians, Zero Times Everything and Victoria Keddie/Rose Kallal . The evening is billed as “an evening of artists that fuse and fracture sound/image/light”. Tickets are available here.
