JG Thirlwell plays rare solo show in Istanbul

164953_10151573148679658_1615477080_nJG Thirlwell will play a new extended version of his  electro-acoustic piece “Cholera Nocebo” in Istanbul Turkey on May 10 at the Babylon Club. The piece premiered at Arts Birthday Party in Stockholm in January 2013. The show is part of the Vodafone Istanbul Calling concert series and is presented in collaboration with Bant magazine. This will be JG’s first performance in Turkey.

JG Thirlwell at the River To River festival in NYC

2403A043A-B86B-400B-298D5CD6B41FF43AThe River to River Festival is “28 days of transformative, investigative art in unexpected places across Lower Manhattan”. JG Thirlwell will appear in two special events at the River to River Festival in New York this June. Firstly, on June 23, JG Thirlwell’s Manorexia will appear in concert at Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University on a bill with Pauline Oliveros and Susie Ibarra & Roberto Rodriguez. During the evening, Manorexia will perform  pieces from the Manorexia oeuvre including the premiere of a new arrangement of Plastic Island In The Pacific. This event is presented by New York Electronic Art Festival (NYEAF) and Harvestworks.

Secondly on July 11 the organization ((audience)) presents Manorexia: Dinoflagellate Blooms in glorious 5.1 sound at Tribeca Cinemas. RSVP is required for this event.

Also appearing at the festival will be So Percussion, Two-Headed Calf & Yarn/Wire, Laurie Anderson, Bang On A Can, Hauschka, Kosminen, and Zeigler, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Maja S.K. Ratkje, Mantra Percussion, Paola Prestini and much more.

JGT at E.S.P. TV

TV‘s Live Taping Trilogy during their Spring Residency at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City on April 13 2013. E.S.P. TV, founded by Scott Kiernan and Victoria Keddie, is a nomadic showcase of primarily NYC-based experimental music, video art and performance tapes live and produced for Manhattan Neighborhood Network public television. Tapings of E.S.P. TV are in front of an audience with live green-screening, signal manipulation and analog video mixing. The entire night is recorded to BETA and edited into half hour episodes for airing on cable TV in New York City. After airing, the episodes are posted online at here for later viewing. Also performing that night will be Cult Of Youth, Shawn O’Sullivan, Driphouse, Greg Zifcak, Nat Roe, Naval Cassidy, plus Dana Bell & Sam Consiglio. The evening will be hosted by Don Stahl and Ted Shumaker.(Giggles)

JGT performs with Ken Jacobs at NYC Film-Makers Co-op benefit

1899_10151282911016671_74378234_nJG Thirlwell will be playing solo live in an electro-acoustic performance along to a live projection of Ken Jacobs‘ Nervous Magic Lantern Performance in a benefit for the NY FilmMaker’s Co-op. Along with JG, the featured performers will be Laurie Anderson, John Zorn and the Aleph Trio performing with Wallace Berman’s film Aleph, Nomi Ruiz, Transgendered Jesus and Zero Times Everything, performing with rare experimental & avant-garde films from the Coop’s collection. Meanwhile, a silent art auction will be available all night, including work by artists Jonas Mekas, Carolee Schneemann, Tom Otterness, Ken Jacobs, Peggy Ahwesh, Hal Hartley, Coleen Fitzgibbon, Bradley Eros, Richard Sylvarnes, Bill Brand, Molly Surno & many others.

The event will take place on March 27 2013 at Santos Party House in New York City and tickets are available here.

 

JG vs Melvins vs Bowie

627The cat’s out of the bag : JG Thirlwell is appearing on the new Melvins album, lending his vocal talents to a cover David Bowie’s “Station to Station”. The album also features guests Scott Kelly of Neurosis, Caleb Benjamin of Tweak Bird, Mark Arm, Jello Biafra and many more. The album is all cover versions, featuring their interpretations of songs from artists ranging from Roxy Music and Queen to Throbbing Gristle and Venom.

The album will be released on April 30 on Ipecac Records.

JG brings the love with Elysian Fields on V-day

02-14-13smJG Thirlwell will be guesting with compadres Elysian Fields in a special Valentine’s Day concert at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. JGT will sing a duet with lead EF chantueuse siren Jennifer Charles, who collaborated with him on the track “Thrush” on the Foetus album LOVE.

Other special guests appearing at the concert include Doveman, Joan As PoliceWoman, Kate Mattison and actor Kevin Corrigan.
