Ectopic Ents Presents "BAIT": an exclusive digital compilation
Ectopic Ents presents Bait -A digital compilation, exclusive to Other Music. It will be available only until Nov 11, 2009, and it costs just under five bucks!
On Bait you lucky people can score a heaping helping of Ectopic goodness – over an hour’s worth of tracks by Foetus, Steroid Maximus and Manorexia( -all alter egos of JG Thirlwell), dating from 1981 up until 2006. It’s not a career overview -but it casts a broad net. There is early experimental work, tracks by Foetus (features many sides of the Foetus monster, -from cinematic orchestral bombast, to breakneck bigband, to cathartic cacophony) a live track, two tracks each by Manorexia and Steroid Maximus and even a remix by Amon Tobin.
The unveiling of Bait is to celebrate the digital release of thirteen Ectopic Ents titles: Flow, Blow, Damp, Limb, Deaf, Ache, Rife, Male and Null/Void by Foetus, Radiolarian Ooze and Volvox Turbo by Manorexia and Quilombo and Gondwanaland by Steroid Maximus. Outside of Other Music (and, of course, www.foetus.org) these titles will also be available digitally via Itunes, Other Music, Emusic, Amazon, Rhapsody, Napster, ILike, Zune and Medianet. In addition, in Europe they will be available via VidZone, 247, Finetunes, 7Digital, Halcyon, HMV (UK), Peoples Music Store, Word and Sound, Phonomonkey and Spotify.

Having said that, Ectopic Ents loves physical media and will continue to print physical media. You will find eight CD titles in the CD shop, including the superdeluxe double disc release Limb (with 48 page book and slipcase). There will be three brand new albums in 2010 – the new Foetus studio album Hide, a brand new Manorexia studio album (in stereo and 5:1 surround sound) and finally, the Manorexia chamber album which will be released on John Zorn’s label Tzadik.

JG Thirlwell at Carnegie Hall with U2 and more for Gavin Friday


JG Thirlwell appeared at the Gavin Friday and friends concert at Carnegie Hall on October 4th 2009. Curated by Hal Wilner to celebrate Gavin’s 50th birthday, this stellar concert featured Laurie Anderson, Antony, Elizabeth Ashley, Bono, Adam Clayton, Andrea Corr, The Edge, Flo & Eddie, Joel Grey, Bill Frisell, Guggi, Scarlett Johannson, Courtney Love, Lydia Lunch, Patrick McCabe, Maria McKee, Eric Mingus, Larry Mullen Jr, Martha Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright, Chloe Webb, plus special guest Lady Gaga and more. The slow birth of Hydroze Plus
Hydroze Plus is a new project which is a collaboration between JG Thirlwell and Fred Bigot of Electronicat. Recorded in Berlin in spurts over the last few years, their debut record is finally being prepared to be unleashed. It will be a four track clear vinyl ten-inch which will be released by in the near future by the French label Optical Sound. Watch here for further details.
Foetus International Shirt Series #1 -Arabic
Ectopic Ents is launching a series of “International Foetus Attire” T-shirts. The first shirt in the series features Foetus expressed phonetically in Arabic on a red shirt. This will be followed by a Russian shirt and a Japanese shirt. All shirts are 100% pre-shrunk cotton and will be available in small, medium, large and extra-large sizes. Thirlwell's remix of Excepter out on 12" vinyl
JG Thirlwell’s remix of NYC band Excepter has just been released on FRKWYS records . The 12″ also contains mixes by Chris and Cosey. A video for JG’s remix has been created, featuring JG himself. Directed by Frankie Macias, the psychedelic clip features spirals painstakingly created with thousands of hours of rendering and creates a kaleidoscopic complement to JG’s mix. The digital version of this release also includes a mix by Jack Dangers.

The Pinch of the Baboon at Galapagos Art Space
The Pinch of the Baboon (JG Thirlwell, Ed Pastorini, Oren Bloedow and Ben Perowsky) will take part in the ISSUE Project Room 6th anniversary benefit, happening on Tues 19th May 2009 at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn. Also on the bill are Elysian Fields, MV Carbon, Mountains, members of Excepter, Ray Sweeten (live video and performance), Brock Monroe (live visuals [of the Joshua Light Show]), Straight and Narrow (1970) film screening by Tony Conrad with soundtrack by John Cale and Terry Riley, films by Martha Colburn & Marie Losier, DJ Fabio (from WFMU’s “Strength through Failure”), Robot Movie by Jim Sharpe with soundtrack by Lary Seven, and more TBA. LIMB CD + DVD + 48-Page Booklet Released!
The long awaited LIMB is now available exclusively at the online shop on this website. LIMB is an archival release of experimental and minimalist compositions recorded from 1980-1983, from the early days of Foetus and pre-Foetus. Though the material is largely unreleased, some of the pieces have been previously released on the compilation albums by Coil and United Dairies. Released as a deluxe double disc package, the music disc contains 12 tracks at 50+ minutes with an additional 20 minute bonus mp3 track. On the second disc, director Clement Tuffreau kindly allowed us to include his 2005 documentary about JG Thirlwell, NYC FOETUS, with this package. The eighty minute film features interviews with JG Thirlwell, Matt Johnson, Alex Hacke (Einsturzende Neubauten), Michael Gira, Richard Kern, Lydia Lunch, Martin Bisi and Elysian Fields along with a lot of never before seen footage of Foetus, Steroid Maximus, Manorexia and more. There is also 45 minutes of bonus extras, comprised of Steroid Maximus 18 piece ensemble live in France, Foetus live in Hannover, Manorexia live at The Stone NYC and a snippet of JG’s LEMUR commission at 3 Legged Dog in NYC. This deluxe package also contains a 48 page perfect bound book with minimal designs by JGT (all in his signature red, white, gray and black palette). Manorexia plays The Stone, NYC
JGT’s Manorexia performed two shows on 06 May 2009 at The Stone in New York City; 8pm and 10pm. Tickets are $10, students age 13-17 admitted half price, and children age 12 and under are admitted free. No pre-sales, all tickets are sold at the door on the day of the performance, so get there early.
Venture Brothers Soundtrack Released!
