The slow birth of Hydroze Plus

Hydroze Plus is a new project which is a collaboration between JG Thirlwell and Fred Bigot of Electronicat. Recorded in Berlin in spurts over the last few years, their debut record is finally being prepared to be unleashed. It will be a four track clear vinyl ten-inch which will be released by in the near future by the French label Optical Sound. Watch here for further details.

Foetus International Shirt Series #1 -Arabic

JGT_Arabic_comp_2EEctopic Ents is launching a series of “International Foetus Attire” T-shirts. The first shirt in the series features Foetus expressed phonetically  in Arabic on a red shirt. This will be followed by a Russian shirt and a Japanese shirt. All shirts are 100% pre-shrunk cotton and will be available in small, medium, large and extra-large sizes. Thirlwell's remix of Excepter out on 12" vinyl

JG Thirlwell’s remix of NYC band Excepter has just been released on FRKWYS records . The 12″ also contains mixes by Chris and Cosey. A video for JG’s remix has been created, featuring JG himself. Directed by Frankie Macias, the psychedelic clip features spirals painstakingly created with thousands of hours of rendering and creates a kaleidoscopic complement to JG’s mix. The digital version of this release also includes a mix by Jack Dangers.

The Pinch of the Baboon at Galapagos Art Space

The Pinch of the Baboon (JG Thirlwell, Ed Pastorini, Oren Bloedow and Ben Perowsky) will take part in the ISSUE Project Room 6th anniversary benefit, happening on Tues 19th May 2009 at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn. Also on the bill are Elysian Fields, MV Carbon, Mountains, members of Excepter, Ray Sweeten (live video and performance), Brock Monroe (live visuals [of the Joshua Light Show]), Straight and Narrow (1970) film screening by Tony Conrad with soundtrack by John Cale and Terry Riley, films by Martha Colburn & Marie Losier, DJ Fabio (from WFMU’s “Strength through Failure”), Robot Movie by Jim Sharpe with soundtrack by Lary Seven, and more TBA. LIMB CD + DVD + 48-Page Booklet Released!

limbpackThe long awaited LIMB is now available exclusively at the online shop on this website. LIMB is an archival release of experimental and minimalist compositions recorded from 1980-1983, from the early days of Foetus and pre-Foetus. Though the material is largely unreleased, some of the pieces have been previously released on the compilation albums by Coil and United Dairies. Released as a deluxe double disc package, the music disc contains 12 tracks at 50+ minutes with an additional 20 minute bonus mp3 track. On the second disc, director Clement Tuffreau kindly allowed us to include his 2005 documentary about JG Thirlwell, NYC FOETUS, with this package. The eighty minute film features interviews with JG Thirlwell, Matt Johnson, Alex Hacke (Einsturzende Neubauten), Michael Gira, Richard Kern, Lydia Lunch, Martin Bisi and Elysian Fields along with a lot of never before seen footage of Foetus, Steroid Maximus, Manorexia and more. There is also 45 minutes of bonus extras, comprised of Steroid Maximus 18 piece ensemble live in France, Foetus live in Hannover, Manorexia live at The Stone NYC and a snippet of JG’s LEMUR commission at 3 Legged Dog in NYC. This deluxe package also contains a 48 page perfect bound book with minimal designs by JGT (all in his signature red, white, gray and black palette). Manorexia plays The Stone, NYC

JGT’s  Manorexia  performed two shows on 06 May 2009 at The Stone in New York City; 8pm and 10pm.  Tickets are $10, students age 13-17 admitted half price, and children age 12 and under are admitted free.  No pre-sales, all tickets are sold at the door on the day of the performance, so get there early.

Venture Brothers Soundtrack Released!

Kronos Quartet Commissions: New for 2010 & Continued Performances for 2009

J.G. Thirlwell continues work on new commissioned compositions for the Kronos Quartet, which will potentially premiere in 2010.

Thirlwell’s first commissioned composition for Kronos, entitled Nomatophobis, premiered 7th April 2006 at Zankel Hall in New York (alongside pieces by Terry Riley and Glenn Branca). Kronos will again perform the piece:

It was part of the programme on 24th Oct 2008 at the Uppsala Konsert & Kongress in Uppsala, Sweden; and on 15th Nov 2008 at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, NM. Previous performances have included Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco on 8th Jan 2007; Royce Hall at UCLA in Los Angeles on 20th Jan 2007; at Theatre d’Arras in Arras France on 1st June 2007; on 22nd Jul at the CSU Summer Arts Festival in Fresno, CA; and on 27th Jul at Rancho Nicasio in California.

Nomatophobis is unrecorded as yet, and will be featured in future Kronos programmes as deemed appropriate.
