{"id":6809,"date":"2018-08-07T19:45:32","date_gmt":"2018-08-07T23:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foetus.org\/content\/?p=6809"},"modified":"2018-08-07T19:45:32","modified_gmt":"2018-08-07T23:45:32","slug":"bang-on-a-can-plays-thirlwell-in-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.foetus.org\/content\/news\/bang-on-a-can-plays-thirlwell-in-australia\/","title":{"rendered":"Bang On A Can plays Thirlwell in Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foetus.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/920x920.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6810\" alt=\"920x920\" src=\"https:\/\/foetus.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/920x920-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>The <strong>Bang On A Can Allstars<\/strong> are headed to Australia, and they will be performing <strong>JG Thirlwell<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;<strong>Anabiosis<\/strong>&#8221; composition in Sydney on August 25 2018 and in Melbourne on August 28 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Bang On A Can<\/strong> commissioned Thirlwell to compose &#8220;Anabiosis&#8221; in 2006, and Thirlwell subsequently recorded his own version, which appeared on the <strong>Manorexia<\/strong> album <a href=\"https:\/\/foetus.org\/content\/discography\/releases\/manorexia-dinoflagellate-blooms\"><em><strong>Dinoflagellate Blooms<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. Thirlwell then adapted the piece for the Manorexia chamber ensemble. In 2015 Thirlwell reworked the piece for the Allstars, which by now had three new members in its ranks.<\/p>\n<p>In Sydney, the Bang On A Can Allstars will perform as part of <strong><em>Extended Play<\/em>,<\/strong> a 12-hour micro-festival that explores and celebrates new music in every format imaginable at the <strong>City Recital Hall<\/strong>.
