{"id":6063,"date":"2016-07-21T13:05:39","date_gmt":"2016-07-21T17:05:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foetus.org\/content\/?p=6063"},"modified":"2020-06-21T21:38:02","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T01:38:02","slug":"thirlwell-performs-lou-reed-at-lincoln-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.foetus.org\/content\/news\/thirlwell-performs-lou-reed-at-lincoln-center\/","title":{"rendered":"JG Thirlwell performs Lou Reed at Lincoln Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On July 30 2016,<a href=\"https:\/\/foetus.org\"><strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6057\" alt=\"Reed_by-Julian-Schnabel-and-courtesy-the-Lou-Reed-Archive\" src=\"https:\/\/foetus.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Reed_by-Julian-Schnabel-and-courtesy-the-Lou-Reed-Archive-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>JG Thirlwell<\/strong> <\/a>will be performing the<a href=\"https:\/\/loureed.com\"><strong> Lou Reed<\/strong><\/a> song &#8220;Men Of Good Fortune&#8221; at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lcoutofdoors.org\/events\/the-bells-a-daylong-celebration-of-lou-reed\">Lincoln Center Out Of Doors<\/a><\/strong> as part of an all-day celebration of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loureed.com\"><strong>Lou Reed<\/strong><\/a> curated by <a href=\"https:\/\/laurieanderson.com\"><strong>Laurie Anderson<\/strong> <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hal_Willner\"><strong>Hal Willner<\/strong><\/a> entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lcoutofdoors.org\/events\/the-bells-a-daylong-celebration-of-lou-reed\"><em><strong>The Bells<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. Thirlwell will perform with a band comprised of <strong>Don Fleming<\/strong> (Gumball), <strong>Sal Maida<\/strong> (Roxy Music), <strong>Kenny Margolis<\/strong>, <strong>Lee Ranaldo<\/strong> (Sonic Youth), <strong>Steve Shelley<\/strong> (Sonic Youth) and <strong>Matt Sweeney<\/strong> (Chavez). Other guest singers performing in the same set include <strong>Joanaspolicewoman<\/strong>, <strong>David Johansen<\/strong>, <strong>Lenny Kaye<\/strong>, <strong>Jesse Malin<\/strong>, <strong>Kembra Pfahler<\/strong>, <strong>Felice Rosser<\/strong>, <strong>Harper Simon<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejonspencerbluesexplosion.com\/\"><strong>Jon Spencer<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>Bush Tetras<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/foetus.org\"><strong>JG Thirlwell<\/strong><\/a>, and<strong> Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls<\/strong>. The set begins at 11.30am.<\/p>\n<p>The day will also include a Tai chi lesson with Master Ren GuangYi; Lou Reed DRONES: an immersive sound installation created from six of Lou Reed\u2019s guitars and amps in a feedback loop; readings of Lou&#8217;s lyrics from <strong>Steve Buscemi<\/strong>, <strong>Willem Dafoe<\/strong>, <strong>Natasha Lyonne<\/strong> and many others; and a set of Lou&#8217;s love songs in the evening performed by the likes of <strong>Laurie Anderson<\/strong>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anohni.com\/\"><strong> Anohni<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>Emily Haines<\/strong>, <strong>Mark Kozelek<\/strong>, <strong>Bill Laswell<\/strong>, <strong>Maxim Moston<\/strong>, <strong>Jenni Muldaur<\/strong>, <strong>Jane Scarpantoni<\/strong>,  <strong>Jim White<\/strong>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tzadik.com\"><strong> John Zorn<\/strong><\/a> and many more.<\/p>\n<p>The concert will take place in the <strong>Damrosch Park Bandshell<\/strong> on the grounds of Lincoln Center at Amsterdam Ave. and W. 62 St., New York, NY 10023 and admission is free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On July 30 2016, JG Thirlwell will be performing the Lou Reed song &#8220;Men Of Good Fortune&#8221; at Lincoln Center Out Of Doors as part of an all-day celebration of Lou Reed curated by Laurie Anderson and Hal Willner entitled The Bells.
