Fetish Ball: Once Upon A Time

For the last 11 years, the (s)extravaganza known as the Fetish Ball has provided an unequaled eve of outlandish dress-up and carnal cavorting, not to mention some of the most eye-popping entertainment seen on any stage in L.A. This year is no exception, and the theme, "Once Upon a Time," offers plenty of possibilities for open-minded grownups to get in touch with their naughty inner youngster amidst a fairy tale–like atmosphere. The bedtime stories told by this year’s special guest may cause nightmares, but that’s only because her rants have always shown that reality is just as scary as make-believe. We’re talking about lingual legend Lydia Lunch, who, for the first time in 10 years (in the U.S.), will actually put her tortured odes to music with a full band (Club Makeup’s Gutter Gangster All-Stars and industrial fiend Clint Ruin of Foetus) behind her. Other stage charmers include the always shameless Gen from the Genitorturers, sultry singer Jack Atlantis, old-timey fetish model Dita, and the burlesque babes from the Velvet Hammer. And if their sparkling getups don’t satisfy every passion for fashion, there’ll be two runway-style spectacles from Mr. S Leather and So Hip It Hurts. Of course, the Fetish Ball has always been a fun place to meet a Prince or Princess Charming if only for one magical eve, and what better way than on the dance floor while moving to provocative beats (courtesy of DJs Virgo and Jason Lavitt) or posing for pictures in a special photo parlor? You may not live happily ever after, but at least you don’t have to turn back into a pumpkin till a few hours after midnight. At the Hollywood Athletic Club, 6525 Sunset Blvd., Hlywd.; Sat., June 30, 9 p.m.-3 a.m.; over 21; $35 in advance, $45 at the door. (323) 644-1811.
