Thirlwell joins Alan Licht Allstars for Futurist Intonarumori concert at Performa Festval

As part of the 2021 Performa Arts Festival NYC, on Oct 15 2021 JG Thirlwell joined Alan Licht, Keith Fullerton Whitman, MV Carbon, Laura Ortman and Seth Cluett in an ensemble performance on Intonarumori instruments, directed by Luciano Chessa . Intonarumori are experimental musical instruments which were invented and built by the Italian futurist Luigi Russolo between roughly 1910 and 1930.

The performance took place at the former Top Shop department store at the Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan, with broadcast direction by Victoria Keddie and an additional performance by Zach Layton‘s Nepenthae.
The performance will be broadcast here on Oct 20 2021 at 7pm EST, followed by a second performance for Intonarumori instruments featuring Margareth Kammerer, Nick Hallett, Zeena Parkins, Frank J. Oteri, Joan La Barbara, Elliott Sharp and others.

JGT sound piece at Liste Art Fair installation

LISTE18_ARTPROFIL_227x297_CMYK_C.inddAt the invitation of artist / musician Delia Gonzales, JG Thirlwell has created a sixty minute sound composition entitled Raven.  The piece will be played at the Turm Glass Bar installation/ bar created by artist Eleonora Meoni, situated at the Liste Art Fair in Basel, Switzerland. June 14-19 2016, between 6pm and 7pm. Exclusive pieces have also been created by Ben Vida, Rose Kallal, Victoria Keddie, Drew McDowall & Hiro Kone, Heatsick, Andy Graydon, Bryce Hackford and others.

JG Thirlwell at Ken Jacobs Fest in NYC

1919435_958500077560431_8017391303997161592_nJG Thirlwell will be performing at the Ken Jacobs Nervous Magic Lantern Festival at Anthology Film Archives on Jan 24 2016 with Collapsible Shoulder, Victoria Keddie and Rick Reed / Tara Bhattacharya.

Ken Jacobs (born 1933 in Brooklyn, New York) is an influential experimental filmmaker. He is the director of Tom, Tom, the Piper’s Son (1969, USA), which was admitted to the National Film Registry in 2007. His Star Spangled to Death (2004, USA) is a nearly seven-hour film consisting largely of found footage. He is a recipient of the American Film Institute’s Maya Deren Award.

The Nervous Magic Lantern works without film or electronics. Moving parts are lightweight fans and an exterior spinning shutter. In the hands of an active projectionist it can fill the screen with moving 3D forms seen from every possible angle, no 3D spectacles required.

Transmissions in Red Hook

node-imageJG Thirlwell will be one of the performers in “Transmissions”, a surround sound event at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn on May 10 2015 at 9pm. Subtitled “Long Tones in A and E”, the piece was created by Pat Noecker aka RAFT and will also feature performers Victoria Keddie, Dana Schechter, Laura Ortman, Ted McGrath, Pat Spadine, Michael Durek, Tracy Brooks, Aaron Moore and Michael Garofalo.  A specially designed app for the piece will also encourage audience participation.

JGT performs at Film Makers Co-Op Benefit

jpegJG Thirlwell will being making an exclusive appearance at a benefit for the NY Film Makers Cooperative on November 19 at Santos Party House. Also on the bill are Philip Glass, Bruce McClure, MV Carbon, Jonas Mekas, Optipus, Bill Morrison, Lary Seven, The Uzipisians, Zero Times Everything and Victoria Keddie/Rose Kallal . The evening is billed as  “an evening of artists that fuse and fracture sound/image/light”. Tickets are available here.

JGT at E.S.P. TV

TV‘s Live Taping Trilogy during their Spring Residency at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City on April 13 2013. E.S.P. TV, founded by Scott Kiernan and Victoria Keddie, is a nomadic showcase of primarily NYC-based experimental music, video art and performance tapes live and produced for Manhattan Neighborhood Network public television. Tapings of E.S.P. TV are in front of an audience with live green-screening, signal manipulation and analog video mixing. The entire night is recorded to BETA and edited into half hour episodes for airing on cable TV in New York City. After airing, the episodes are posted online at here for later viewing. Also performing that night will be Cult Of Youth, Shawn O’Sullivan, Driphouse, Greg Zifcak, Nat Roe, Naval Cassidy, plus Dana Bell & Sam Consiglio. The evening will be hosted by Don Stahl and Ted Shumaker.(Giggles)
