Zeigler performs Thirlwell cello piece on Governors Island NYC

KV7A2167lrJeffrey Zeigler will be performing Rubatosis, a composition for solo cello that he commissioned from JG Thirlwell, at the Rite Of Summer Music Festival on Governors Island NYC on June 25 2016. He will also perform pieces by Bryce Dessner, Paola Prestini, Andy Akiho and David T.Little. Performances are at 1pm and 3pm.

JGT Piece at the Bang On A Can marathon

Screen shot 2014-05-24 at 7.25.50 AMThe annual Bang On A Can Marathon concert will take place on Sunday June 22 at the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center in NYC as part of the River To River Festival. At the concert the Bang On A Can All Stars will perform JG Thirlwell’s composition “Anabiosis”. This piece was originally commissioned by the Bang On A Can People’s Commissioning Fund in 2005 and performed by the All Stars that year. Subsequently JG Thirlwell rearranged and refined the composition for his Manorexia ensemble and performed it extensively. Further to this, a studio recording (performed fully by JG Thirlwell) was released on 2011’s Manorexia Dinoflagellate Blooms album. Moving full circle, JG has worked with Nathan Koci to integrate refinements developed in the composition from subsequent work into a new score for the All Stars, and this will be played at the BOAC marathon.

The concert will feature music by Louis Andriessen, Armando Bayolo, Jherek Bischoff, Carlos Carrillo, Bryce Dessner, Julius Eastman & Jace Clayton, Michael Gordon, Judd Greenstein, Brooks Frederickson, Molly Joyce, David Lang, Paula Matthusen, Marc Mellits, Meredith Monk, Andrew Norman, Caroline Shaw, JG Thirlwell, and Julia Wolfe.

The concert will feature performances by Adrianna Mateo, Anonymous 4, Bang on a Can All-Stars & friends, Bearthoven, Contemporaneous, Dawn of Midi, Great Noise Ensemble, Jace Clayton (aka DJ/rupture) & friends, Jherek Bischoff, Mantra Percussion, Meredith Monk & Theo Bleckmann, Roomful of Teeth and So Percussion.

The concert runs from noon until midnight and admission is free!

Manorexia in Australia

adelaide festJG Thirlwell will be making his first ever live appearance in Australia on Mar 4 2013 when he appears with his Manorexia ensemble in a bill with Kronos Quartet (w/special guest Bryce Dessner) at the Adelaide Festival. The concert will take place at the Thebarton theater in Adelaide. For this concert, Thirlwell will travel to Australia with NY Manorexia alumni Peter Wise (percussion) and David Broome (piano), and the ensemble will be augmented by string ensemble Zephyr Quartet. At the moment this will be the only Manorexia date in Australia. Also appearing at the Adelaide festival will be Laurie Anderson, Deerhoof, Buke and Gase, Goran Bregović, Calder Quartet with Iva Bittova, Van Dyke Parks, Neil Finn & Paul Kelly plus an Unsound portion of the fest featuring Tim Hecker & Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never), Demdike Stare, Lustmord, Emeralds and many more. Kronos play Thirlwell’s Eremikophobia in Athens

On May 5 2011, Kronos Quartet will perform at the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens, Greece. They will once again be playing JG Thirlwell’s second commission for them Eremikophobia, as well as pieces by Terry Riley, Michael Gordon, Missy Mazzoli, Bryce Dessner, Laurie Anderson and Steve Reich.
